Post Award
The Post-Award Grants Management team specializes in the financial and administrative management of sponsored research awards after funding has been received. As subject matter experts in sponsor regulations, institutional policies, and grant compliance, we partner with faculty, research teams, departmental staff, and central service offices—including Purchasing, Travel, Payroll, Human Resources, and Finance—to ensure sponsored projects are administered efficiently and in accordance with sponsor and University requirements. Our team supports the full post-award lifecycle, from award setup through closeout. We provide strategic guidance on budget management, expenditure planning, payroll and effort allocations, subaward administration, sponsor financial reporting, award modifications, and compliance. We also oversee unrestricted research funds, including start-up, discretionary, and gift accounts, helping investigators manage all aspects of their research portfolios. Beyond day-to-day award management, we serve as trusted advisors to principal investigators by monitoring financial performance, identifying potential risks, forecasting expenditures, supporting audits, and recommending solutions that promote responsible stewardship of sponsored funds. We continuously improve post-award processes and collaborate across the University to provide exceptional service while enabling researchers to focus on advancing discovery and innovation.
Award Budgeting + Allocation
The PEFS Post Award Team manages the initial onboarding and setup of successful award proposals, creating account codes and linking PI’s and supporting parties. The budgeting and allocation process reviews the initial proposal budget established in Pre Award and modifies the plan to suit final award funding and duration.
Grant Reporting
The Post Award Team leverages grant financial reports generated by PEFS Decision Support. PI reports are distributed monthly to support federal, University and Sponsor policy and to provide additional fund transparency to faculty, staff and students. The Post Award team reviews the summary and detailed level reports for compliance and maintains regular office hours to discuss report assessments with PI’s.
Compliance
In conjunction with Financial Transaction Services, the PEFS Post Award team is responsible for monitoring award activity and reporting to ensure compliance with university, federal and sponsor policy. The Post Award Team assists internal and 3rd party audit effort.
